Yes, Dr Wylie performs lap band removal

It's a question we've been asked quite a few times recently. Yes, Dr Wylie does take on the management of patients with gastric bands with a GP referral. He also removes the gastric band where required.

Gastric bands are often removed because people are having trouble eating (due to the band) or they have severe reflux due to failure of the oesophagus with obstruction created by the band over time.

The removal of gastric bands is a keyhole procedure removing the band port from the abdominal wall. Its a straight forward procedure and since it is done laparoscopically it means faster recovery.

Another common reason for removing the band is for revisional weight loss surgery, going from a band to a gastric sleeve or gastric bypass procedure. This is done if severe reflux or ongoing weight problems exist.
