Hiatus Hernia repair in Toowoomba

A hiatus hernia is a hernia occurring between the chest and the abdomen, where a part of the stomach pushes up through the diaphragm into the chest. It is possible to have a hiatal hernia and not have symptoms.

Those with symptoms often have reflux-type experiences and/or pain in the chest or abdomen, both of which can be worse after eating or when lying down. A more detailed list of symptoms can be reviewed on Health Direct.

When symptoms are ongoing, the hiatus hernia can be confirmed through imaging, ordered by a GP or Specialist. If needed, surgery to repair the hiatal hernia is offered locally by Dr Neil Wylie, based at St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital. This procedure is usually done laparoscopically, commonly known as keyhole surgery.
