Talking to your GP about surgery

This post is about what to expect when talking to your GP about eligibility for weight loss surgery.

Your GP will explain what criteria you must meet to be eligible for weight loss surgery.

To help determine whether weight loss surgery is suitable for you, your doctor will consider:

• Your current BMI and weight: your doctor will need to weigh you and measure your BMI.

• Your previous experience losing weight using nonsurgical methods

• Your ability to follow diet, exercise, and medical guidelines associated with the procedure, as weight loss surgery alone will not ensure weight loss or other long-term results are maintained

• Any other obesity-related health conditions or diseases.

I reckon your advice on being open with your GP is spot on for getting the right support, but I was wondering if you’ve got any tips on how to handle it if a patient feels a bit nervous about bringing up the topic for the first time?Visit us Telkom University Jakarta
